Advertising with environmental claims becomes considerably more expensive

On March 22, 2023, the EU Commission presented the long-awaited proposal for a "Green Claims Directive". This complements the "Directive on Empowering Consumers for Environmental Change" already presented last year and aims to combat greenwashing in advertising.

The EU Green Claims Directive was recently published and still has to go through the legislative process. However, it is already foreseeable that companies wishing to advertise with environmentally friendly promises in the future will have to dig deep into their pockets. In an interview with HORIZONT, SKW Schwarz attorney Christina Kufer explains what companies can expect if they want to advertise with terms such as "climate neutral" and "made from recycled material" after the directive is passed.
