SKW Schwarz advised on pilot project for broadband expansion in Saxony
SKW Schwarz Rechtsanwälte advised the Vogtlandkreis administrative district in the bid invitation for broadband expansion. In collaboration with technical consultants of TKI Chemnitz GmbH, Berlin-based partner René M. Kieselmann and Counsel Dr. Mathias Pajunk accompanied award procedures in two large project areas with a bidding volume in the tens of millions of euros.
The contracts were signed at a ceremony in the presence of Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer at the beginning of July 2018.
Vogtlandkreis is Saxony’s first administrative district to expand broadband for its population in this manner – supported with federal and state funds – to create important infrastructure in structurally weak territories. By 2020, some 22,000 households and 3,400 companies in northern Vogtland will be able to use higher data transfer rates.
“The award procedures under the Concession Award Regulation were demanding in so far as the technical and commercial issues had to be coordinated with specifications of the funding bodies and their representatives,” said René M. Kieselmann. “We are very pleased that we were able to successfully support the region in establishing the basis under public procurement law for this highly important project.”
