Jointly with companies such as Bosch, Mastercard, and Deutsche Bahn, SKW Schwarz is supporting the Bitkom study “Blockchain Tech in Germany.”
The study was commissioned by Bitkom e.V. and project group “Blockchain Tech in Germany 2018,” in which SKW Schwarz is actively participating. Between September 10 and October 19, 2018, computer-assisted, oral and telephone interviews were conducted to determine the significance of blockchain technology in companies.
The interviews were held with individuals who are responsible for “digital technologies” in companies, including general managers and board members, CTOs, CIOs, COOs, Heads of R&D, as well as Heads of Blockchain. The study focused on the automotive, banking & insurance, energy & water supply, retail, IT & telecommunications, mechanical & plant engineering, and the transport & logistics sectors.
At Bitkom’s Blockchain Business Summit 2018, held in Nuremberg on December 3, Dr. Axel Pols, General Manager Bitkom Research, and Benjamin Matten, Chairman of the Blockchain Working Group, presented selected partial results from the study to an audience of experts. The study offers interesting insights into companies’ current use of blockchain technologies. As an example, 38% of companies with 50+ employees have already some experience with the topic of blockchain. In 98% of the companies surveyed, there is no individual yet who is responsible for blockchain in the organization. The study concludes that blockchain is frequently ignored when it comes to future technologies and that many companies hesitate to use it. Nine out of ten companies are not considering blockchain at the current time. Leaders in blockchain are predominantly large companies, including numerous retail companies.
