SKW Schwarz is actively promoting young talent, particularly in IT & Digital Business

SKW Schwarz Rechtsanwälte is actively committed to the promotion of young lawyers. The law firm regularly cooperates with universities and offers young talents attractive entry opportunities.

With this aim in mind, the IT & Digital Business department focuses on close collaboration and joint workshops with renowned university chairs in IT law and data protection law. The department kicked off 2019 with a joint event with the chair of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kühling of Regensburg University. In June 2019, the Frankfurt office of SKW Schwarz will host a new edition of a joint seminar on IT law and data protection law that was also successfully held last year with the chair of Prof. Dr. Georg Borges of Saarland University. And in March 2019, Julian Westpfahl, Partner at the department, was invited by the Harvard European Law Association to hold a lecture on digital transformation at the Harvard Spring Conference.

“Such joint events are a real benefit for both sides, because they perfectly combine theory and practice for young lawyers and promote the professional exchange of lawyers and universities,” said Dr. Matthias Orthwein, Head of the IT & Digital Business department. “Obviously, the recruiting aspect also plays a key role for us as a law firm.”

A current example proves that this strategy is bearing fruit: lawyer Franka Becker joined SKW Schwarz effective May 2019. After starting her career in IT law and commercial contract law at a renowned law firm in southern Germany, she moved to SKW Schwarz’s Düsseldorf office, where she will concentrate on IT law and data protection law. The contact was established during last year’s joint seminar with SKW Schwarz, which Franka Becker had attended as part of her doctoral thesis on blockchain at Saarland University.
