After a short introduction to SKW Schwarz and the IT & Digital Business department by Dr. Matthias Orthwein, Philipp Thomé gave the students an overview of data protection law and the changes introduced by the GDPR. Afterwards it was up to the students: In a practical case they had to revise a faulty privacy policy, a challenge that the participants took on with great dedication.

The workshop lasted a total of three hours. At dinner in a nearby restaurant, there was plenty of opportunity for the workshop participants from the university and the lawyers from SKW Schwarz to exchange ideas.

Dr. Matthias Orthwein, partner in Munich and Head of the IT & Digital Business department at SKW Schwarz, thanked the participants for their commitment and announced: “We are looking forward to repeating the workshop next year! SKW Schwarz places great value on a close connection to legal research and education as well as on a lively exchange with the next generation of lawyers.”

“As a university lecturer as well as dean, I am delighted that this workshop has once again provided our students with an exciting insight into practical work,” adds Prof. Kühling.

In addition to further cooperation with Prof. Kühling, the law firm is planning similar activities at other law institutes. For example, a joint seminar with Saarland University and Prof. Dr. Georg Borges in Frankfurt is planned again this year.
