SKW Schwarz strengthens IT practice through partner acquisition in Munich – Dr. Matthias Orthwein moves from Luther

On 1 August 2011 SKW Schwarz Rechtsanwälte will be strengthened by the addition of Dr. Matthias Orthwein, LL.M. (Boston) as a partner in Munich. The 38-year old is leaving the Munich office of Luther and joining the IT, Internet & E-Business practice group at SKW Schwarz.

Dr. Matthias Orthwein had been employed at the Dusseldorf office of Luther since 2003. From 2006 he built up the IP/IT field of the office in Munich. The focus of his consultancy is IT law, in which he supports both suppliers and clients with national and international IT outsourcing projects as well as manufacturers and clients with design, negotiations and conflicts concerning software contracts. Cloud computing and managed services contracts have acquired increasing significance in the process. Finally, he has supported a joint venture of reputable, international IT suppliers with their entry into the market in Germany and China. In addition, Dr. Matthias Orthwein regularly presents papers in the partner networks of major software suppliers.

“With his consultancy experience involving major IT projects on the user and supplier side and his acknowledged position in major software manufacturer networks, Matthias Orthwein is a valuable addition to our specialized IT team; he will make a significant contribution to its further growth,” explains Prof. Dr. Mathias Schwarz, Chairman of the Board at SKW Schwarz. Martin Schweinoch, who coordinates the higher level practice group IT, Internet & E-Business at SKW Schwarz, elaborates: “With Matthias Orthwein we will obtain real specialist and personal reinforcement for our practice group in order to make our work even more highly respected by clients and specialist publications.”

Dr. Matthias Orthwein comments his move: “The prospect of supporting my IT clients in a team of award-winning colleagues at SKW Schwarz and further expanding the practice appeals to me greatly. The highly personal, human touch in the consultancy approach of this independent German law firm is also very fitting.”

The IT, Internet & E-Business practice group at SKW Schwarz currently has 26 attorneys at the Munich, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Berlin offices. Among the clients are suppliers and major users, including several companies listed in the DAX 30.
